If I had to describe my writing in one sentence I would call it: "humorous, pulp, fun, SF which is bubblegum for the brain!" (Okay it wouldbe one long sentence....)  I strive to make my books enjoyable reads.

baxter
Baxter Moon Galactic Scout, my first SF YA will be hititng book stores on April 1st! for Brown Barn Books.
cover Blue Haired Bombshell, out Dec 4th.  2007.  The fifth book, Zach Johnson, must find the assassin who murdered Sexy Sprocket and two other members of the World Council. His investigation leads him to the Moon-and to a tall, sensuous, blue-haired beauty named Lea who possesses psychic powers, and powerful ambitions...

"Zakour has done a good job of giving the reader a humorous science fiction novel. What Terry Pratchett has done in using fantasy to satirize culture and the genre of fantasy, Zakour has done with science fiction."  Grasping for the Wind.  (Hey, I'll take close to Pratchett any day.)

"The mystery is fun to follow as Zach deals with elves, goons, Sputnik, politicians, and of course THE BLUE HAIRED BOMBSHELL. John Zakour spoofs the DC insiders with this entertaining outsider futuristic murder mystery." Harriet Klausner

"In Zach's world, bioengineering has resulted in gorilla thugs, ogres, elves, and naturally some very sexy women.  The result is a spoof of both genres, and although some of the jokes are starting to feel repetitive, it's still a lot of fun.  Thrills and chills interspersed with groaners and guffaws.  What more could you ask?"  10/2/07 From Don Damassa's Critical Mass

"it's safe to say that John Zakour continues to turn out a highly enjoyably, always weird story....for sheer unadulterated fun, it's hard to beat..." the sfsite.

The Frost Haired Vixen: was released on Dec 4th, 2006. This is the fourth book in the Zachary Nixon Johnson hair color "trilogy". In the year 2060, Zach Johnson, the world's only freelance private investigator, tackles his strangest case yet-solving the murders of two elves at the North Pole. Santana Clausa, the micro-mini skirt clad bombshell and frost-haired mutant who runs the Pole hires Zach to stop the killer or killers before they strike again, destroying the Holiday for billions. If the media gets whiff of the murders at the "happiest, safest place on Earth," mass panic is sure to ensue-and that's never a good thing. With the happiness of billions at stake, Zach and HARV (his A.I. companion wired directly to his brain-yes it was as painful as it sounds) will match wits, muscle, and technology against a bevy of superhuman females, a mutant elf with an attitude, killer robots, and even a couple of nerds with an agenda.

"I will say in all honesty that I love this book. I thought it was great. You can't get any better then killer robots, superhuman females, and genetically engineered elves. Zach Johnson is wonderful as a futuristic Humphrey Bogart, constantly hassled and harassed by his holographic sidekick, swaggering around New Frisco in his fedora and trenchcoat," bookfetish.org.

John Zakour has written a serio-comic tale with the emphasis on comic futuristic thriller. There is so much humor in the tale that reader will find themselves instantly laughing out loud." Harriet Klausner

This review from Renee Mallett, sums me up pretty well.

The RadioActive Red Head: the third in the hair color trilogy (released in Dec 2005 and co-written with Larry Ganem.) It's about rock stars, the music industry and of course controlling the world. Zach and HARV (well sort of) try to protect (well sort of) rock star Sexy Sprockets from the world. The question is does the world need protection from her?

A Man's Guide to Babies is my newest gift book. A fun and handy gift and guide book for the new dad. The book has been featured on The Daily Buzz TV show.

I wrote this book because I wanted to show dads if I could survive being a new dad so could they. It's filled with mostly helpful hints that can be invaluable (or at least kind of useful) to all new dads.

Plus, it lets them know they are not alone in their confusion and they can do it! Here are a few tips for new dads.

A Man's Guide to Pregnancy: a fun look at pregnancy to help out new expecting fathers.... Published by Metropolis Ink.
Working Daze: a collection of cartoons from John's comic strip Working Daze , syndicated by United Media.(Drawn by Kyle Miller.) Working Daze is about the trial and tribulations of working with other people.
The Plutonium Blonde: a humorous SF romp written with Larry Ganem. It's about, Zachary Nixon Johnson, the last PI on Earth as he tackles a crazed fembot out to destroy the world. Published by Daw books.
The Doomsday Brunette: the exciting sequel! Here Zach butts heads (and other things) with four superhuman sisters who are super rich, super gorgeous and just as crazy. Oh, and their dad built a Doomsday Device.
HTML 4.0: one of my older, serious books. It's also available in Japanese.

Interviews and Shorts and such

I just did an interview with Pink Raygun.  I like this quote from it, "... I miss the kind of science fiction that makes me wonder and tickles the NASA obsessed little kid in me (not in that creepy, inappropriate way). I want science fiction to be fun again. Thank God, I found John Zakour."

2/9/08: I did an audio interview for Adventures in Sci Fi publishing.  That was quite fun.

My short story Mate Match appeared in Nature magazine in July as part of their Futures series.

Illusia my YA Fantasy series (written with Liz Keller) has also found a home.  It was be an intial release from Meadowhawk Press

John has written a low budget (5000K - 1M) but fun buddy movie called, Life Long Losers.  The movie may begin production sometime in  08.

Comic Strips

John writes his own comic strip for United Media Syndicate called Working Daze (drawn by the very patient Kyle Miller.)

In the past John has written for over 50 other comics including: Rugrats, Mother Goose and Grimmy, Bound and Gagged, Dennis the Menace, and yes even  Marmaduke.   I acutally thought I might be taking over the regular SundayMarmaduke writing, but that didn't work out.

Computer Games

John wrote the dialog for the frogwares computer game, 80 Days. Here is a quote from the president of Frogwares in an interview for gameboomers.com.

"...American writer for 80 Days, John Zakour, is an accomplished joke writer and I believe he did some excellent work for the American players." 80 Days is like the George Bush of video games. Some people loved the cheesy humor, other's well, didn't like it all that much. Humor writing is sooooo subjective.  Such is the story of my life, some people think I'm quite funny, others don't.  Life goes on.

Cartoons

John "draws" a weekly cartoon "geektoon" for the guys at geek.com.

Short Stories

John has SF short stores in the following collections: Sirius the Dog Star and Gateways.

John has recently written a short story for the anthology entitled Misspelled, which is edited by Julie Czerneda and Martin H Greenberg.

TV Shows

John has written a  12  minute episode of The Learning Tree for Ebru TV.

John is developing  a reality TV show called Mate Match.

John's Agent is Joshua Bilmes. There are some nice quotes about my book on Joshua's web site. (I especially love the "the best humorous sf title of 2001" - Science Fiction Chronicle)
